Hi all,
Dennehy here on mailing duty this week. I’m not as witty or eloquent as the others so I’m not going to try to be. But here we go!

Oar-making workshop:

Captain Chris is organising a oar-making workshop for members (yeah, I know, savage!!). There are a couple of details to nail down but it’s looking like it will be held on the May bank holiday weekend and possibly the following weekend if needed. This is a great opportunity to get a bit deeper into what it is to be an oarsman/oarswoman. Places will be limited and on a first come first served basis. There will be cost involved which hasn’t been absolutely finalised and there may be an option of making your own oar that will be yours for ever more, or for a bit less, you make an oar that joins the ranks of the club’s oars.

Anyone interested should contact Captain Chris asap on 0858264700.

Family Day:

Due to unforeseen holy communions, we have rescheduled the family challenge and BBQ to the warmer, sunnier month of August, so pencil in August 25th for another fun packed day with St Michael’s!

Regatta logistics – members needed!!

To race, we need our boats. That means we need people to tow them from Dun Laoghaire to the various regattas along the coast, or we won’t be able to attend some regattas. So, if you have a car with an engine over 1.6L and you would be up for getting the club racing, let me know. If you have a tow bar, happy days. If not, the club will cover the cost of having a tow bar fitted, provided it doesn’t break the bank altogether.

Another way you can help with the effort is to shake family/friends/well-wishers who may have an appropriate vehicle to give us a hand. A business could get some nice advertising exposure from towing a beautiful skiff along the road of a Sunday, and we’d look at repaying the favour through further sponsorship/promotion.

This is a really critical point in terms of getting us racing, so get thinking!! Let me (Niall Dennehy – 0879267438) know if you can help out or know someone who can.

Race availability:

Chris and his team of selectors will be starting to look at crews next week, with a view to integrating selection and weekly scheduling to the greatest extent possible. That means that race availability has to be in by close of business THIS MONDAY, 23RD APRIL. The link is in the members area of the website.

Subs:

Subs (the money ye gots to give the club, not the people who jump in for your 6.30 row cos you’re stuck in work) have to be paid by the first regatta. If you need to make arrangements contact the treasurer, but otherwise, get them in.

Coxing training:

A couple of people have expressed interest in having a bit of training for coxing, which is great. We’ll run a session next week off the water which has been well received before – it covers the basics and will give people the opportunity to ask a few questions and get some pointers. If you’re interested, give me (Niall Dennehy – 0879267438) a shout and we’ll fix it up. Format’/venue etc depends a bit on numbers so let us know. We’ll be following up with some on-water training too, but this will be a good starting point, or a refresher for those who have done a bit.

Schedule:

Get your availability in @ https://www.dunlaoghairerowing. com/members-area/availability/ weekly-availability/ .

You’ll see that the next number of weeks are up, so if you want to do them in advance, just make sure you don’t forget what you sign up for!!

Also, the times for the next two weeks are 6.15, 7.15, 8.00. The following two are 6.15, 7.30, 8.30. This is to make the most out of the stretch in the evenings. For the next two weeks, we’re looking at the 8pm crews being back at the slip at 8.45. This is from both a safety and logistical point of view. All hands need to be on deck to get the boats in at the same time.

We’re a very busy club at the moment. It’s really important that we all get stuck in and not wait for someone else to do the nitty gritty. This is particularly important with launching and recovering the boats. Don’t be the person that saunters down the slip assuming other people will sort out their equipment etc.

I think that’s it, if I’ve forgotten something (which in fairness is very likely), I’ll get back on the whatsapp or something similar.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Niallí
