St. Michael’s Rowing Club Dún Laoghaire is delighted to be hosting the Hobblers Challenge on 7th September. The challenge commences at 1pm and is a 28 KM endurance race starting at Dún Laoghaire harbour at the east breakwater beneath the artist Fiona Mulholland’s striking Hobbler’s Memorial (pictured).
Participating East Coast skiffs will then proceed out the harbour mouth, across to Poolbeg Lighthouse and up the Liffey to the ESB chimneys. Crews will then double back across the mouth of the harbour and Scotsman’s Bay to Sandycove and Bullock harbour, turning at Coliemore. The finishing line is at the East Breakwater.
Club Chairperson James Tedd says “We are delighted to host this endurance race again. Similar to previous years, the competition is open to traditional skiffs so we are hoping to get as many East Coast clubs taking part as possible.”
The times to beat are 2 hours 47 minutes (SMRC Men 2018), and 3 hours 3 minutes (SMRC Women 2018), with a trophy apiece up for grabs. All members and friends are welcome from 8pm in McKenna’s pub, our spiritual home.
Give them a cheer if you see them!
