Hey everyone.
As mentioned in the Chairperson’s Quarterly update in December- https://bit.ly/2qJ4C4q (scroll down to ‘national rowing politics’)-, there’s a bit of a ‘bust up’ in coastal rowing politics at a national level at the moment, and we’ve to figure out our place in all of this as a club. We will be having an information meeting this Thursday at 7.15pm sharp at our boatshed for anyone interested in hearing more and having their say.
To put it simply, and at the risk of ambiguity, a number of clubs around the coast have ‘split off’ from the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation and have ‘joined’ Rowing Ireland, who have set up a division to effectively rival/replace the ICRF. As things stand, St. Michael’s is affiliated to both the ICRF and RI.
Several of our committee members and East Coast Rowing Council reps have attended meetings over the past few months held by the ECRC, ICRF, and RI as this whole situation plays out. The purpose of Thursday’s information meeting is to convey this information as best as we can to members, and to get feedback and suggestions on how the club should proceed.
While important to the club and indeed the sport’s future, it’s fair to say this meeting won’t be for everyone, but if you have an interest at all, do drop by.
