2. Summer bodies are made in winter
Now that the excesses of the festive season are behind us (no more Quality Street for breakfast), it’s time to get serious about getting in shape before the start of the rowing season – as we always say, ‘Summer bodies are made in winter!’
We’ll be back in those boats before you know it, so factor in at the very least a solid 8 weeks of regaining your fitness before you pick up an oar again. Other clubs are training hard so let’s all start the season ready to smash it, rather than trying to catch up.
Boxercise is on in Mounttown Community Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm. It’s a fiver a go, drop in any time – there are always a few familiar faces from the rowing club there. Tuesdays it’s circuits and bag work, Thursdays it’s core exercises and bag work.
Captain Chris has been looking around at gym deals worth checking out... Loughlinstown and Monktown (Blue Pool) are doing €25/month gym only and €35/month gym and pool – once you join you can use both locations.
3. Boat Maintenance
So, I think it’s time I told you all the truth…the magic boat fairies don’t exist.

But between them, Stephen Ring Claus, Easter Amy Bunny and The Tooth Ger-y have put the most work in, clocking up around 80 hours down in the boat shed already. The boats belong to everyone who uses them and there is a collective responsibility on all members to assist in keeping the club going. If you haven’t been down to do your bit, make it a belated New Year’s Resolution to BE AN AWESOME PERSON and put a few hours in.
4. Speaking of New Year’s Resolutions…
For anyone who has not yet paid their subs for 2017, you won’t be included on the schedules to row until you are up to date.

Please put your rowing initials in the ‘comment’ part of the transfer so the treasurer knows who it is from and email info@dunlaoghairerowing.com to let us know you have paid. If you would like to spread payments in 2, 3, or 4 installments, that is not a problem, and if you are currently unwaged and have difficulties making your subs, talk to the treasurer or membership secretary about working something out.
5. And finally…
Congratulations to club members Nicola and Gareth on the birth of their son Oliver Philip Whittington.
Sadly, Gareth’s dad passed away at the end of December and didn’t get to meet the new arrival. Club members Colm Crilly, Eamonn McKay and Rachel Coyle travelled to Wales to attend the funeral.
Our thoughts are also with Mark ‘Rusty’ Fennell at this time, after his close friend Mick Burke passed away in a tragic accident in Dalkey last week. RIP.
MIck’s cousins started a GoFundMe page to assist his parents with funeral costs if anyone wishes to make a donation here: https://www.gofundme. com/micheal-mick-burke
That’s all for now.
Beir bua,
Deanna
